First of all, thank you to all my clients from last year who invited me into their lives to photograph special moments!
There is no denying that emotion is beautiful and capturing more emotions was my last year’s goal. I am happy I was able to work with people who made my job easy. I believe that as a photographer you need to know what an emotion feels like before you know what it looks like. The authentic and genuine expression of emotion is what reveals a person’s soul and capturing that in a photo is what tells their story. My job is to tell their story in the most authentic way.
Photographing a wedding is a little different than photographing a portrait session. Weddings flow with all sorts of emotions and it’s up to me to anticipate them and capture them at the right moment. During the portrait session of a wedding I like to give my couples the space to relax and enjoy a few moments by themselves. Then I step in and simply ask them to get really close to each other and start hugging. From here it’s easy, most people get emotional when they hug.
During an engagement session, I already have an idea in mind of what I want to capture based on what I learned about my couple in previous conversations. Some people show more or less emotions, but it’s quite amazing to see how people react when they are asked certain questions. Like, what do you most appreciate about your significant other? And, based on their answers, I let my couple set the mood for the shoot.
Here are some of my favorite images from last year, and as one once said:
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart”.
